Analysis of Photo's

Contact Sheets

On the 25th November I had taken Photo’s of the actress who play’s Mia (Steph) using a Canon camera. We plan to use the pictures for both the magazine cover and the film poster. In order to make the pictures look more effective I messed up her hair and made it appear as if she had been crying so that the viewer feels sympathetic towards her, as she is upset throughout the film. I also used a tripod to maintain a steady shot.

The first set of Photo’s I had taken was against a blank background, this was essential as it meant it would be easier to cut around the image whilst editing on Photoshop. I took various medium and medium close-shots of Steph during the process; I thought that she expressed emotion on her face during these photos extremely well. I also thought the body language used during the pictures when she was grabbing her hair conveyed anger and confusion very well.

The second pictures I had taken we again using a blank background. However these were taken without the actress’s coat on and a light was used to create an eerie effect. The blue lighting not only makes the photos looked more professional but a background is not required as the blue light is all that is required. I decided to only take medium shots as I thought the effect would look great on the magazine cover.

The last set of the Photos were taken outside, with a 10 second time lapse effect used. This meant that each picture was taken in 10 seconds so that the light from all the cars drove past within the length of the shot appeared in the final photo. However this meant that Steph had to stay still within the 10 seconds required or the motion from her movement would appear in the photo. I had many problems when taken these pictures as it was very cold outside so it was hard for Steph to stay still during the time limit. In order to overcome this I change the time lapse to 5 seconds so it would be easier for her to stay still. These pictures were a lot more suitable as the motion of her moving did not show as much as the pictures taken before. However other problems I encountered was that cars were not always present so at times Steph and I had to wait till it was busy to take more pictures. I decided to take long shots as the background was just as important as the actress to symbolise it was in a busy area like London as I was unable to take pictures there.
