The purpose of today was to film the main protagonist (Steph) in the streets of London. This including shots of her running and establishing shot of famous landmarks. The group and Steph decided to meet up at Cuffley train station at 9am to travel to London. We decided it would be more fair to spread the filming equally between and to all give our own ideas. As we were filming we came up with many different ideas and methods of shot, different shot angels and different acting methods. We came up with the idea that throughout every scene the actress should express sad emotions, as she is searching for her boyfriend to make it more realistic and so that our audience will feel sympathetic toward her. In arrange of industrial areas and backstreets of London we filmed Steph running through the streets to convey the fact that she is searching for her boyfriend and there are many dead ends. This is conventional for thriller films as many of them are set in big cities like London. We also decided to film a scene of Steph (Mia) and Leyla (Elena) her best friend under a bride, who is caught giving a unknown character a book of valuable information. We decided to add this scene it would create a good twist to the story. Furthermore, it is still unknown whether we will include it in our final piece. Some of The famous landmarks we filmed were Big Ben, Tower Bride and the London Eye; the establishing shots of these locations are an important element of selling our film. Overall today was a successful and experimental day as the majority of the shots we filmed weren’t planned as they are intended to be part of the trailer which is scripted so it was not part of our script of storyboard.

Today we planned to film the party scene and a shot scene at cold Christmas. During period 2 at school we set up the drama studio to look like a party for the party scene, this included the lighting. We then had to gather a lot of extra’s for the scene to make the party more realistic. However 2 cast members had to leave early so it left Me, Alex and Leyla to organise the extra as well as the actors, filming and lighting. This did not work very well as Leyla was also a huge acting part of the scene with Steph, so she was unable to help control anything. Our teacher Miss Austin told us from before that a party scene would be very complicated and from today we have experienced it. So therefore we were unable able to get any decent footage due to lack of control and time as we only had an hour to film it. We then decided that next time we attempt to film this scene we need to give each extra as much attention and detail whilst filming to get successful shots. In comparison to yesterday’s success today did not go according to plan. We also decided that we may longer film the scene Cold Christmas as it is a very complicated area to film so therefore I decided that we could use the Church on the top of my road (St James’ Church) if we are unable to film Cold Christmas.

Although I, Shanyse and Hollie weren’t present, during period 5 today Alex and Leyla filmed a scene with Eugene (Brett) tied up in the chair being tortured. I had a chance to look at the footage afterwards and was very pleased with the outcome because it looked very gripping as it was filmed in night vision. This included various shots of him being strangled and beaten up whilst being gagged. However after school today we my group all met in the drama studio with Nick (Dean) to shoot the scenes of his side of the phone conversation. Me, Shanyse and Hollie filmed the majority of this as we were unable to film the scene earlier. We set up the lighting in the room so that the top section Nick’s face was in focus and we did various shots of him at a low angle to signify his authority. Only having parts of his face lightened up in the dark room conveyed a very mysterious atmosphere, and would be a very effective way of attracting our audience during are trailer. Overall, today had been a very successful day of filming and we had produced many suitable shots today for our trailer. However today we also decided that we are going to make small changes to our plot. Rather than filming a party scene we are going to do it at a pub, and car park instead of a petrol station. We still plan to follow the same script so it shouldn’t have a big impact on our story.

Today we decided that we were going to change the name of our film to Reprisal. This was mainly due to the fact that Reverie was unrecognisable to our audience, although it had huge relevance to our plot. We decided to change it to reprisal as it was the 4th most popular film name on my poll and is a very conventional film name.
At 12:00pm we meet up at the Robin Hood pub to film the scenes we were going to use at the party in the drama studio. This worked out very well as we did not need extras so there were no issues with controlling them. We did various master shots of Steph, Eugene, Leyla and Alex sitting at a table having drinks. We then did various close-ups and over the shoulder shots and a medium shot when Brett proposes to Mia. Later we did a POV of Dean (Nick) sitting on the table on the other side of the pub. In order to make it feel like it was filmed during the evening we closed the blinds to prevent outside light coming in which also meant we had no backlighting whilst filming. Filming shots at different angles meant that we have more of a variety of shots to use whilst editing. I really enjoyed filming at the pub as it was a nice and relaxed environment, the staff we also kind enough to reserve a particular area for us to film. I, Hollie and Shanyse did the majority the filming today as Alex and Leyla were used in shots as extras. Below is an image of me and Shanyse filming:
