There are many changes to our trailer which we done during the resubmission of our coursework. Not only did we add new footage we decided to move around some parts of the trailer and remove some clips such as the clips of Eugene (Brett) getting tortured as it made the trailer repetitive. Firstly we filmed the new footage of Steph (Mia) and Leyla (Elena) in the media office at school. As that was the only place we had to film, this meant that we had to make even more alterations to the plot. Rather than Mia seeing Brett get kidnapped, he goes missing for a few days unaware of what’s happened till she gets a mysterious phone call at work. Firstly we decided to film a scene of Mia and Elena talking to each other, to make it clear to the audience that he has gone missing. Then we began filming the phone conversation. As we had already filmed Nick (Deans) part of the conversation on the original trailer we had to write the script so it fitted with what Nick said previously.
During the editing stage we cut both conversations throughout the trailer and placed action shots in between. We then added a flashing effect on the close-up of the phone ringing and a split screen effect during the phone conversation. We decided to use this effect as it is very conventional and portrayed the binary opposition of both characters clearly.
This is because the shot of the Steph is filmed at a high angle which signifies innocence and as it is in a light room it also signifies the character is good. In opposition to the shot of Nick which is filmed at a low angel to symbolise dominance and authority, also as it is filmed in a room with dark lighting it signifies that he is the villain.
Another major change we made was the music during the middle of the trailer. We decided to add the track Dragster Wave as it created a better theatrical mood we originally wanted to convey. However as the original track fits with the part when the trailer reaches its climax and rewinds, we decided that the music should merge back to the original music piece Code Breakers. This makes the trailer more professional looking as many trailers use more than one music track during the trailer. In addition another change we made was the ending of the trailer. Firstly we added a flashlight effect on the movie title, this is essential as it anchored the plot as Mia is searching for her boyfriend. Whilst this was playing we added a phone dial sound effect, this was because it signifies that a phone has hung up. When the actor names showed up we used an effect so that each name would enlarge. We then added a breathing sound effect in sync with the text effect used on the actor names. This made the trailer creepier and helped build tension at the end. We also added a screen with the director’s information and film certificate to make it looked more qualified. Other sound effects we decided to add was the Thunder sound effect during the shot of Big Ben, to symbolise London’s image of rain and to disorientate the viewer. Another sound effect we added was the phone ringing, so that it would be clear in the trailer. Other minor changes we made was changing the font at the beginning to impact font to anchor the font we used at the end of the trailer, this was mainly because our target audience said previously that they perefered that font. We also used the green screen and Fox logo at the beginning. As Fox is a well established movie company we thought it would attract our target audience. Overall I am very pleased with the changes we made and I think we have produced a better quality trailer.
