Preliminary Filming Projects

10th June 2009

On the first day of my A2 media course, we had to produce a 60 second film clip given to us by a script with the shot length and camera angles included. This project was done in groups of 3 and it was the first time I had experience using a video camera. During this small project each group member had the chance to use the video camera, as all the actors weren't needed in every shot.

A huge problem with this project was that the night vision was left on. This was a huge concern as it meant that the scenes that were shot outside had too much brightness. So therefore the objects on screen were not visible. Another problem was that the camera was shaking; this was mainly due to the fact that we did not have access to a tripod to maintain a steady focused shot. In order to overcome this problem we had to shoot this sequence again.

During the second attempt of filming the display on the camera given to us was not working. In order to overcome this we had to look through the camera lens, which was not very clear. This meant we were unable to see backlighting. The camera was still shaky at times, but this was again due to the fact that we did not have access to a tripod.

Today we spent the lesson editing our first media filming project. In order to do this we used a program called iMovie, which was also the first time I experienced using it. Other than the problems I mentioned before various shots were not as long as they were meant to be. To overcome this we altered the motion of the clip. We also did not find suitable music for the clip.
